The Advanced Earth Observing Satellite-II (ADEOS-II "Midori-II"), the successor to ADEOS "Midori" (Advanced Earth Observing
... Satellite, launched in August 1996 and in operation until June 1997), was developed in order to improve earth observation technologies. It will gather data that will improve our understanding of the mechanism of global environmental changes, such as ozone layer depletion and global warming. The data can also be applied to meteorology and fisheries research.
ADEIS-II was launched by using H-IIA Launch Vehicle Flight No.4 from the Tanegashima Space Center at 10:31 am on December 14, 2002 (Japanese Standard Time). However, ADEOS-II operation on orbit was given up on October 31 2003, because sufficient electric power was not available to maintain the satellite (final data receiving was on October 24 2003).
