Project Description
The Acoustic Monitoring Project of the VENTS Program has
performed continuous monitoring of ridge systems in the eastern
Pacific since August, 1991 using the U.S. Navy SOund
SUrveillance System (SOSUS) network and autonomous
hydrophones. In May, 1996, long-term monitoring of the spreading
centers in the central equatorial Pacific (East Pacific Rise,
Galapagos Ridge) was initiated using moored autonomous
hydrophones.
