North Pacific Shuttle Experiment

Project Description
Acronym for the NORth PAcific eXperiment, a shuttle experiment that took place from Feb. 1979 through Jun. 1980. It included 15 approximately monthly cruises on a track running directly south from Hawaii to 4S, east to 153W, north to 12N, east to 150W, and then south to the island of Papeete at around 18S. The ships involved collected CTD data every 1 of latitude or longitude, and occupied profiling current meter stations every 1 between 6S and 10N (with additional half-degree stations with 3 of the equator). Acoustic Doppler current profiles were collected continuously along the ship's track, which was traversed in alternate directions. A set of three vector-averaging current meter moorings were also maintained during the experiment.
