Project Description
Tropical Wind, Energy Conservation and Reference Level
Experiment (TWERLE) involves retrieving wind data from 400
balloon-borne weather stations and NASA's Nimbus F satellite.

NIMBUS 6 was launched on June 12, 1975 and the program objective
was to Continuation of research, development and testing of new
meteorological sensors, systems and systems configurations to
measure atmospheric temperature, water vapor and ozone. Those
sensors which could be used in operational weather analysis and
prediction were to be added to the NOAA operational weather
satellite program.

This project involves the efforts of the University of
Wisconsin, Madison, GISS, and NCAR.
