ERD is located in Athens, Georgia, in the foothills of the Northeast Georgia Mountains. Historic Athens is the home of the University of Georgia.

The 60+ members of the scientific, engineering, administrative and clerical staff are actively involved in the life of the community, including our partnership with Fourth Street Elementary School.

The Lifespan childcare center is located on the southwest corner of the ERD grounds. The Center is owned by the EPA and operated under contract by Athens Montessori School. Its primary purpose is to provide quality childcare to children of EPA and other U.S. Government employees or legal guardians in the Athens area. The Center is open to all families in the Athens area; however, children of federal employees are given priority for enrollment.
