North American Carbon Program
Project DescriptionThe North American Carbon Program (NACP) is a multidisciplinary research program designed to obtain scientific understanding of North America's carbon sources and sinks and of changes in carbon stocks needed to meet societal concerns and to provide too tools for decision makers. Successful execution of the NACP will require an unprecedented level of coordination among observational, experimental, and modeling efforts regarding terrestrial, oceanic, atmospheric, and human components. NACP will rely upon a rich and diverse array of existing observational networks, monitoring sites, and experimental field studies in North America and its adjacent oceans.
NACP Intensive Field Campaigns
The North American Carbon Program (NACP) conducts intensive experimental field campaigns to:
* address specific science issues, questions, and hypotheses
* develop and test methods and models
* calibrate and validate remote sensing observations relevant to NACP objectives
* produce critical data and analyses
NACP intensive campaigns address specific, challenging issues that are critical to the success of the overall program. Typically, intensive campaigns require unusual concentrations of resources, and other major program elements depend on their timely completion.
The ORNL DAAC is currently in the process of archiving initial NACP data sets. This will be a continuous process, so check here frequently for updates.
