Greenland Ice Core Project Project Description
The goal of the Greenland Ice Core Project (GRIP) was to retrieve and
analyse a 3000m long ice core drilled through the Greenland ice sheet at its highest point, Summit. The objective of this effort is to reveal the broad spectrum of information on past environmental, and particularly climatic, changes that are stored in the ice. The project was conducted from January 1989 to December 1995 with funding from the European Science Foundation and contributing organizations from Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
