Description
A Global Positioning System (GPS) is a constellation of 24 satellites, developed by the U.S. Department of Defense that orbit the earth at an altitude of 20,200 km. These satellites transmit signals that allows a GPS receiver anywhere on earth to calculate its own location. The GPS is used in navigation, mapping, surveying, and other applications where precise positioning is necessary.
