Summary (Summary adapted from the Server for Ecological Modelling web site)
This WWW-server provides easy access to available information about ecological modelling. It is also designed for modellers who want to make their models easily available. It has the purpose of acting as a register and documentation system of ecological models: REM and ECOBAS, ... simulation-software and links, data sources and other information about modelling.
The ECOBAS (Documentation of mathematical formulation of ecological processes) project provides a system for documentation of mathematical descriptions of ecological processes. In particular ECOBAS focuses on convenient access to information, complete and precise documentation of mathematical formulations including the limits of validity whereever feasible, and standardization of documentation. To facilitate an efficient usage of mathematical models, the documentation standard ECOBAS_MIF was designed. This standard provides a set of meta-data attributes to completely describe a mathmatical model. Using the ECOBAS_MIF, modellers can describe and advertise their model through an online entry form.
The Register of Ecological Models (REM) is a meta-database for existing mathematical models in ecology. REM models can be searched either by name (1), or with regard the content, by keywords, main subject, main medium, mathematical type of the model, organization level (2) or by free text search (3).

Description:
Proper documentation of a simulation model is certainly a time
consuming task. However, scientists are neither
rewarded for writing a documentation nor punished for not doing
so. Standardized and accessible model
documentation promises not only an improvement over the present
situation but also confers additional advantages
of scientific interest like detecting of generic pattern in
mathematical formulations. To facilitate an efficient usage of
mathematical models, the documentation standard ECOBAS_MIF was
designed. Not only equations and
parameterized variables have to be considered, but also
ecological background information (e.g. range of validity,
implicit assumptions, ecological context) is essential. +In this
paper, we introduce newer developments and features
of ECOBAS. An ECOBAS modelling assistant tool was designed to
provide an easy to use interface. As a
demonstration of ECOBAS, the system was used to reimplement the
Rostherne model.
