Lightning data from the National Lightning Detection Network (NLDN) Data Locator and Subsetter and Long Range Lightning networks can be accessed and refined to a particular area of interest using geographic coordinates.
The subsetter will zip through the entire NLDN dataset for the time period designated, ... and repackage the data into daily files which contain only those lightning events which occur in the user defined (geographic) box.
The in house subsetter is relatively fast, and will return to the user a 'tar' file which, when opened, will reveal daily files. The subsetter is written so that these daily files only exist if there is lightning in the 'box'- which means, that if an order spans three months, there is a good chance that there will appear to be missing days. This is not the case: the subsetter has simply not found lightning within the given coordinates, thus did not produce a daily file.

If you are phoning in the order or using email directly to the GHRC- Make sure that you advise User Services that you would like the data subsetted. Don't forget to tell them the coordinates!!
