Summary (Summary adapted from the Make a Tide Prediction web pages)
This site provides six months of daily high and low water tide predictions for the U.S. tidal reference stations. Also included on this site are the corrections needed to make tide predictions for more than 3000 secondary tidal stations. The list of stations has been broken down into states and other ... areas for which there are tide stations. Each state is further broken into regions for selection. Each region will present a list of the tide stations in the area. These stations have been listed geographically; thus stations which are near each other along the shoreline will be near each other in the listing. This will make finding the location you are interested in, or a nearby station, simpler.
The site contains predictions for stations both inside and outside of the United States. Information for all stations is displayed similarly for each region; a list of stations and their associated time/height difference calculations as well as the nearest reference station. When a reference station is selected, the tide prediction for that station is displayed. If the user wants a more accurate prediction for the subordinate station, the reference station time/height differences should be applied. A plus sign (+) indicates that the tide at the subordinate station occurs later or is higher than at the reference station and the difference should be added; a minus sign (-) indicates that the tide is earlier or lower and should be subtracted. An asterisk (*) in the "Height Difference" column represents an unsatisfactory prediction whereby the user should multiply the amount following the asterisk by the the reference station height and round up to the nearest .1 foot. Access Constraints There is a fee for services rendered by CO-OPS. A request for water level data, benchmark information, Great Lakes data and information typically costs $48.00. A request for tide and tidal current prediction information typically cost $31.00. Consultative services cost $75.00 per hour.
Use Constraints
Predicted times are given with Daylight Saving Time incorporated from April to October when appropriate, and AM and PM notation are used. The tidal high and low water levels are given in feet above Mean Lower Low Water which is the nautical chart datum of soundings.
Extremes of meteorological conditions have been excluded from the analyses and ... predictions. Therefore, the predicted tidal heights should be considered as those expected under average weather conditions.
Caution: Time and height differences and ratios are derived from a comparison of simultaneous tide observations at the subordinate station and it's reference station. Because these figures are constant, they may not always provide for the daily variations of the actual tide, especially if the subordinate station is some distance from the reference station. Therefore, although the application of time and height differences will generally provide reasonably accurate approximations, they cannot result in predictions as accurate as those listed for the reference stations which are based on much larger periods of analysis.
