Abstract:
The digital library of the Geo-Atlas of the St. Lawrence summarizes the
geoscientific information available for the St. Lawrence Basin. This
hydrographic basin coincides with the wide geological regions of the Canadian
Appalachians, Laurentians and the St. Lawrence Platform. These large geological
ensembles cover both sides of the St. Lawrence River, Estuary and Gulf located
in the southern parts
... of Quebec and Newfoundland, as well as the provinces of
Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. The St. Lawrence Geo-Atlas,
centred on the Appalachian geology of Canada, is a collaborative initiative
linked to the Canadian Geoscience Knowledge Network, established between
various geoscientific partners, including the provinces, the Geological Survey
of Canada and universities. The objective of this initiative is to provide an
integrated geoscience knowledge base of the St. Lawrence basin. The St.
Lawrence Geo-Atlas is a shared digital library resource comprising a network of
distributed map, document and image datasets maintained by a consortium of
federal, provincial and academic partners in Eastern Canada. Information
contained in the digital library covers a wide spectrum of geoscience themes
relating to the geology of the St. Lawrence basin. To achieve this, the
Geo-Atlas was built using the foundations laid down by the CORDlink and
HYDROLink digital libraries document collections of digital maps, text and
images.
