Abstract:
The 2008 TerraViva! SEDAC Viewer is an update of the original TerraViva! SEDAC Data Viewer. This map viewer and standalone software application (Microsoft Windows-based) uses a powerful data-viewing engine and tools to enable the visualization and integration of hundreds of socioeconomic and environmental variables and layers, including a range of satellite-based data. The update encompasses 51
... ready-made maps, ten GeoData indicator collections with hundreds of variables, and other features such as spatial data overlay analysis, scatter plots, tabular data display, map image production, and Web-based download of additional data layers. In addition to data sets included in the earlier version, the 2008 adds the Human Appropriation of Net Primary Productivity (HANPP), Natural Disaster Hotspots: A Global Risk Analysis, Global Poverty Mapping, Human Footprint and Last of the Wild , v.2, Population, Landscape, and Climate Estimates v.2, and the Compendium of Environmental Sustainability Indicators Collection v.1.1. It is produced in collaboration between ISciences and the Columbia University Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN).
The integrated visualization, analysis, and display of geospatial data will be of primary interest to fundamental and applied researchers, operational users, and public policy experts in the social and earth sciences.
