Description:
The Earth Observing System (EOS) Clearing House (ECHO) was formerly known as
EOSDIS Independent Information Management System (IIMS).
This document is intended to communicate the Application Programmers Interface
(API) for the Earth Observing System (EOS) Clearing House (ECHO). The ECHO
architecture and associated programmatic interfaces have been designed to
accommodate extensibility across a wide range of protocols and computing
platforms. This extensibility is accomplished through the utilization of a
standardized collection of XML based messages, associated transactions, and
protocol-specific messaging adapters.

Description:
The major tool to find data within ECHO is a Client. In ECHO terms, a Client is
a software entity that interacts with ECHO's APIs. ECHO participants, whether
they be Partners or End Users will use a Client to use ECHO. ECHO has several
Client Partners who are developing Client software that will interface with
ECHO.
As soon as these Clients become available they will be listed in Available
Clients/UIs.
Additional Information
A downloadable version of the ECHO User's Guide for Programmers is provided to
assist Partners and End Users in learning how to use ECHO functions. This
document provides details on specific ECHO API functions, how to access ECHO,
requirements to use ECHO, sample code to get one started using each API, and a
test tool that can be used to exercise ECHO APIs as well as a learning tool.
