Forcing and Validation Data for Six Russian Stations in the Global Soil Moisture Data Bank

Summary
This data set consists of meteorological and hydrological observations from the 6 Russian stations described in Robock, et al (1995) and Vinnikov and Yeserkepova (1991) for use in land surface models. The data set consists of the following meteorological measurements: saturation deficiency (mb), height of lower cloud layer (km), dew point temperature ... (C), total cloudiness amount (tenths of total coverage), lower cloudiness amount (tenths of total coverage), wind direction, wind velocity (m/sec), total precipitation (mm), air pressure (mb), soil surface temperature (C), air temperature (C). Actinometric data comsists of net radiation at the surface (longwave and shortwave), direct shortwave radiation on a surface perpendicular to the solar zenith angle, total (direct and diffuse) incoming solar radiation, albedo of the surface, total and lower cloudiness (tenths of total coverage). Hydrologic data consists of available soil moisture, mean snow cover thickness near the station (cm), water equivalent snow cover thickness (cm), snow covered area (%), max. water vapor presure on the snow surface (mb), evaporation from the snow surface during night and daylight (cm), total evaporation from grasscover surface, precipitation at same time as total evaporation, total evaporation from surface under vegetation (cm), freezing depth of soil from surface (cm), snow cover thickness at the station (cm), melting of snow from the surface (cm), ground temperature (C), depth and temperature of water table.
