Satellite Observations of Forest Fires from the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory
Entry ID:
JHU_APL_AVHRR_FIRE
Summary
Abstract:
At its Satellite Communications Facility, the Johns Hopkins University
Applied Physics Laboratory receives daily data from the AVHRR instrument onboard the NOAA polar orbiting satellites. The JHU/APL Ocean Remote Sensing Group rapidly processes the data into images. Fire-detection software was used to detect fire occurrence. Images are available as both single-channel images and multi-channel composite images. In places were fire occurred, images of smoke plumes and fire scars are also available. [This information was derived from the website of the Ocean Remote Sensing Group at JHU/APL.]

An attempt is made to geographically register the data but this may be
off at times.
Use Constraints
These images are not intended as a working fire detection resource;
they are made available only as interesting observations that anybody could make from the publicly available AVHRR data. Ancillary Keywords
