Summary
A6 - NOAA ARL Twin Otter Data The Southern Oxidants Study (SOS) conducted a major field research campaign in Nashville/Middle Tennessee area in June and July 1994 and 1995. The goal of this study was to improve scientific understanding of the processes that control the production and distribution of ozone in the ... troposphere. The NOAA deHaviland Twin Otter conducted airborne experiments on 16 days during the 1995 Souther Oxidants Study (SOS) Nashville/Middle tennessee ozone study. The majority of Twin Otter flights were dedicated to the measurement of regional pollution fluxes. The aircraft flew low-level missions northeast of Nashville throughout the study. The Twin Otter also conducted a large number of profiles over surface monitoring sites, particularly the Level 3 Youth, Incorporated station. Parameters measured include: ozone (O3), carbon monoxide (CO), sulfur dioxide (SO2), nitric oxide (NO), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), total nitrogen oxides (NOy), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), carbon dioxide (CO2), water (H2O), temperature, dew point, net radiation, ultraviolet radiation, wind speed and direction, turbulence, position, altitude, and aircraft velocity. The study was conducted from June 23, 1995 through July 19, 1995. The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) was the coordinator for the 1995 Southern Oxidants Study Nashville/Middle Tennessee Ozone Study.
