Abstract:
Nationally-maintained database of information about official
National Cooperative Soil Survey (NCSS) - recognized and
correlated soil series. The descriptions include typical soil
profile descriptions, ranges of soil and non-soil properties,
competing and associated soils, geographic setting, drainage and
permeability, and remarks. This database is a subset of the
national OSED database and
... normally contains only those soils
series identifies as occurring in or near the county or soil
survey area.
Collection Organization: Natural Resources Conservation Service
Collection Methodology: OSEDs are created as new soil series are
recognized, data collected, and soil series established. OSEDs
are proposed at the field, but are approved at MLRA, through
cooperation of the state, and national soils staffs.
Collection Frequency: OSEDs are not collected into the local
OSED database.
Update Characteristics: The types of amounts of data update are
variable. In the update process, data may be added, updated, or
deleted from the database. Data are obtained through the
appropriate NRCS State Office. Official modifications to the
OSED database may be performed by local NCSS Soil Scientists,
but become official only after state and national review and
approval by NRCS.
