Abstract:
Data and metadata are provided for the Continental United States,
Alaska, and Hawaii. Information on Forset type and density are
provided in the data sets which are available in GIF image format,
ARC/INFO Grid export format, or in the origional band sequential
format as obtained by the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer
(AVHRR) or other sources.
The data is also available on CD-ROM data
... disk at a cost of $50.00.
The disk may be ordered from:

The data files may be read and displayed with image processing, GIS or
other graphics software systems. File and map projection parameters
required to read the data files are contained in their associated .txt
files. For example, when reading ak.map file, the following
information is generally needed and can be found in ak.txt file:
numbers of lines and samples, number of channels, number of bits per
data value. After the data file is read in, the user may want to
reference it to the source map projection by using information,
(e.g. projection name, center, coordinates of the first cell, etc.),
also found in the .txt file.
These data were produced on computer systems at the USDA Forest
Service, Southern Forest Experiment Station, Forest Inventory and
Analysis unit. They were transferred to this CD-ROM in ISO 9660
format. No warranty, expressed or implied, is made by the USDA Forest
Service with respect to the utility of these data on other computer
systems, nor shall the fact of distribution of such data constitute
any such warranty. The USDA Forest Service will offer appropriate
adjustment of credit for media defect or shipment damage within 90
days from the date of shipment.
The data were transferred from the CD-ROM and converted into formats
necessary to make the data available over the Internet. No warranty
whether expressed or implied, is made by Martin Marietta or EPA
regarding the usefulness of the data or the metadata, nor shall the
fact of distribution of such data constitute any such warranty. In
other words, the data is provided here as is.
