Summary

Abstract: The National Water Information System database (NWIS)provide access to
water-resources data collected at approximately 1.5 million sites in all 50
States, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. Online access to this data
is organized around these categories:
- Surface Water
-Ground Water
-Water Quality

The USGS investigates the occurrence, quantity, quality, distribution, and
movement of surface and underground waters and disseminates the data to the
public, State and local governments, public and private utilities, and other
Federal agencies involved with managing our water resources.

Description: The Purdue University Web-Based Hydrography Analysis Tool (WHAT) allows users
to view USGS stream flow data in a GIS setting. Users can also upload their own
stream flow data to be visualized in this map service which is created using
the open source mapserver technology. A flow statistics model was added to the
system to generate models for flood scenarios.
