Abstract:
The Climate Change Calculator is an interactive software tool designed to raise user's awareness of the greenhouse gases they produce through their daily activities and lifestyle choices. This Canada-specific tool will help people of all ages learn about their contributions to greenhouse gas emissions and will suggest measures they can take to reduce emissions.
The Climate Change Calculator
... collects information from the user by identifying their province or territory of residence and by characterizing their key lifestyle choices. The user is guided through a graphical Canadian household containing icons on home heating and cooling, appliances, transportation and recreation. For each feature, the user is lead to a screen where multiple-choice questions are answered sequentially. This information is then used by the Calculator to estimate personal CO2 emissions. In addition, a useful reporting function shows a graphical emissions breakdown for each feature. This report or "scorecard" can be accessed at any point in the exercise by simply clicking a button. Throughout the calculator software, a convenient and sophisticated Help system will provide answers to user questions.
