Abstract: "Mechanism by Which Water Deficit Alters Cell Division in
Developing Maize Endosperm" is a project that tests the
hypothesis that the extent of ABA accumulation and inhibition of
endosperm cell division is a function of the rate of abscisic
acid (ABA) catabolism in kernel tissues. Another goal of this
project is to evaluate whether inhibition of cell division
during drought involves changes in the ... production of cyclin, a
regulatory factor with central importance in controlling cell
division. Its purpose is to determine the extent to which the
rate of abscisic acid catabolism differs in endosperms of apical
and basal ear regions of maize and relate such differences to
the inhibition of endosperm cell division during water deficit.
Also, to determine the effects of water deficit on the
expression of cyclin in maize endosperms.
