Quality This shapefile of contours was interpolated from a triangulated irregular network that was generated from slope corrected orthometric heights of Antarctica.
These heights were derived using ERS radar altimetry.
The ArcView 3D analyst was used to interpolate the contours. The resulting shapefile was converted to an Arc/Info coverage. The Arcedit ... generalize command was used to thin the contours using a tolerance of 500 metres. The resulting contours were splined with a grain tolerance of 100. Finally the contours were manually cleaned and then generalised with a tolerance of 10 metres. The void area at the centre of the continent was removed using the erase command. A certainty value of approximate was assigned to contours that fell within areas of invalid heights as indicated by the reliability shapefile (refer to metadata record ERS_REL_ANT).
On completion, the coverage was converted to a shapefile.
