Ice thickness measurements of the Wright Lower Glacier using radio echo sounders

Abstract: The Wright Lower Glacier develops a complex of lake and glacier ice where the glacier enters Lake Brownworth. The form of the subglacial ice water surface was investigated. Ice thicknesses were determined from radio-echo soundings along a profile at the glacier margin. A total of 21 soundings was made along the 400m profile, with an additional three soundings up on to the elevated glacier surface.The form of the Wright Lower Glacier Tongue was determined by a 5km cross profile sounded at 100m intervals. The profile commenced in the western corner of the glacier on a known dry based ice cliff margin and moved out towards the glacier center.
