Global Ocean Observation Database (GOODBase) from the Scripps/NODC Joint Environmental Data Analysis Center (JEDAC)Entry ID: SIO_JEDAC_GOODBASE
Abstract: The Global Ocean Observation Database (GOODBase) is a relational and
object-oriented database of ocean surface and subsurface physical and
chemical profile data. It is coupled to a World Wide Web interface
which allows users to select and edit a data set, generate graphical
analysis displays, and/or retrieve the data through the Internet.
GOODBase is developed at the Joint Environmental Data ... Analysis Center
(JEDAC), a cooperative program of Scripps Institution of Oceanography
(SIO) and NOAA's National Oceangraphic Data Center (NODC).
Data types available in GOODBase are temperature, salinity, oxygen,
phosphate, silicate and nitrate.
GOODBase contains data from the Global Ocean Temperature and Salinity
(GOTS) data set, the World Ocean Atlas, and the Global Temperature and
Salinity Profile Project (GTSPP). GOTS and World Ocean Atlas data are
also available from NODC on CDROM. GTSPP data is available on
line from NODC. Note that GOODBase does not contain the most
recently archived data (especially station or bottle data), which can
be obtained from NODC User Services http://www.nodc.noaa.gov.
The GOODBase interactive data browser allows users to query the
database. Searches are directed by setting latitude and longitude
range, date range (with seasonal filter), instrument type, data
source, country and vessel ID, NODC cruise number, quality filter,
minimum depth, output fields and arrays, or standard formats. Data
generated from searches may be output to screen or file for FTP and
may be used to produce color-coded distribution maps. In addition to
starting new queries, users may recall an old query to modify the
selection and continue the analysis. Pre-formatted data distribution
maps are also available.
The analysis capabilities allow users to generate plots of parameter
vs. depth, parameter vs. parameter, parameter (at any standard depth)
vs. latitude, longitude or time. Plots can be color-coded for any
additional available parameter.

Access Constraints Full access is available to all users doing governmental, academic,
and private research. Commerical users should contact NODC User
Services at 301-713-3277.
Non-registered users may edit, produce maps, and perform graphical
analyses with data sets of up to 100 stations. ASCII data files may
be retrieved for requests ... estimated to produce up to 10,000 stations.
For "registered" users (those with email address and host machines
with domain names ending in .edu or .gov and any other users
requesting registration from the Administrator) these limits are
increased to 1,000 and 100,000 stations.
"Unlimited use" status is also available to accommodate special
