The GLACIOCLIM Surface Antarctic Mass BAlance (SAMBA) project - Mass balance and meteorological data in Adelie Land and at Dome CEntry ID: 411_0_IPEV_FR
Abstract: This is the Antarctic component of the GLACIOCLIM observatory managed at the LGGE (Laboratoire de Glaciologie et de G?ophysique de l'Environnement), to detect, monitor and understand climate and mass balance variability and change in the glacial environment. GLACIOCLIM is recognized and supported by the French Polar Institute (IPEV), the Institut National des Sciences de l'Univers (INSU), the CNRS ... (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique), the UJF (Universit? Joseph-Fourrier, Grenoble) and Grenoble's Sciences of the Universe Observatory (OSUG). The GLACIOLCIM-SAMBA program proposed here is the Antarctic component of the GLACIOCLIM observatory, for which the logistical and financial support of IPEV is requested. IPEV support since 2003 has made it possible the set-up of the full basic observing system, The program maintains surface mass balance networks at Cap Prud'homme (CP, summer and winter surveys), along a 150 km transect (1 survey/yr), and at Concordia (1 survey/year or more). Snow water equivalent is obtained through accumulation stake measurements, snow density being assessed by shallow firn cores. Meteorological instruments are also be deployed near CP and special meteorological and glaciological observing periods are organized.
