Mount Menzies 1:50000 Topographic GIS DatasetEntry ID: Menz50k
Abstract: The Mount Menzies dataset is a topographic database.
Mount Menzies is situated within the Southern Prince Charles Mountains, surrounded by the Fisher Glacier.
The database contains natural features captured at a density appropriate to 1:50,000 scale. Features are represented as lines, points and polygons. The dataset includes a 20 metre interval contour coverage.
The data is available for download as shapefiles from a Related URL below.
The data conforms to the SCAR Feature Catalogue which includes data quality information. See a Related URL below.
Each feature has a Qinfo number which, when entered at the 'Search datasets & quality' tab, provides data quality information for the feature.

Quality Spatial and attribute verification of the dataset was performed using aerial photography and image interpretation. Only those features included in the Australian Antarctic Spatial Data Model form part of this dataset.
This dataset was compiled from 1:70,000 scale aerial photography, flown on 15/01/1973, SPOT imagery captured 17/02/1989 and MK4 Russian Space Photography captured 14/12/1988.
... The value tests for the database include; a test for spatial accuracy and data completeness, including line and polygon errors. The layers are also checked to ensure they overlay and abut as appropriate. A test of valid features against the Australian Antarctic Spatial Data Model and a visual check against all hard copy material has been performed.
Horizontal and Vertical accuracy of well defined features is better than +/- 5m for the RC9 aerial photography. Spot photography has a horizontal and vertical accuracy of +/- 50m. The MK4 Russian Space Photography has a horizontal and vertical accuracy of +/- 100m.
Since the mapping was done the SCAR Feature Catalogue has superseded the Australian Antarctic Spatial Data Model. The data has been reformatted according to the SCAR Feature Catalogue.
