Abstract: This physical collection consists of kasten core archive tubes, jumbo piston core sections, and mega core archive cores from USAP cruises NBP10-01 and NBP12-03. These cruises were part of the Larsen Ice Shelf System Antarctica (LARISSA) program. Study areas include the Larsen Ice Shelf embayments (LIS-A and LIS-B) on the eastern Antarctic Peninsula, and several fjords and bays on the western Antarctic Peninsula including Andvord Bay, Barilari Bay, Hugo Island Trough, and a sediment drift occupying Larsen Channel on the northern AP.

Purpose: The purpose of LARISSA was to investigate the modern geology, glaciology, oceanography, and biology of the Larsen Ice Shelf system and the tidewater glaciers on the Antarctic Peninsula, and apply the modern system relationships to the interpretation of paleorecords (sediment cores and ice cores) of ice shelf behavior and stability.
