Abstract: At its Satellite Communications Facility, the Johns Hopkins University
Applied Physics Laboratory receives daily data from the AVHRR
instrument onboard the NOAA polar orbiting satellites.
The JHU/APL Ocean Remote Sensing Group rapidly processes estimates of
sea surface temperature (SST) from these data. Regions of interest
include: Gulf Stream Region, Chespeake Bay, Coastal Mixing and Optics
... Region (northeast U.S. coast), Northern Gulf Stream, Southern Gulf
Stream, Gulf of Mexico, Bahamas, and StormWatch (northwest Atlantic
Ocean including eastern U.S. and Canada). The imagery includes both
single pass data and composite data from multiple passes.
Sea Surface Temperature is computed from a multi-channel algorithm.
Land regions are displayed as seen by NOAA Channel 2 for daytime
passes and Channel 4 for nighttime passes.
