Abstract: This data set consists in measurements of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2),formaldehyde
(HCHO), major ions (NO3, Cl, Ca, NH4, K, Mg) and electric conductivity (EC) in
snow pits and shallow ice cores collected on US ITASE (International
Transantarctic Scientific Expedition (USITSE); see also
http://www.ume.maine.edu/USITASE/ ) across the West Antarctic Ice Sheet
(WAIS). ... Core records from a total of 21 locations between 76 and 90 degrees
southern latitude ranged from 90 to 200+ yr length.
All core parameters were analyzed for NO3, Cl, Ca, and NH4, using Continuous
Flow Analysis (CFA) with the respective fluorescence or photometric detection
method. Cores from the 2001 and 2002 field seasons were also analyzed for K, Mg
and Ca, using an IRIS Intrepid ICP-OES instrument (Thermo Electron Corp.).
Data reported include depth, age and concentration of the respective chemical
species and annual accumulation. Depth resolution is better than 2 cm. Snow pit
of 1-2 m depth data have 1-2 cm resolution.
Data will be made available at the AGDC (http://nsidc.org/agdc/) once
publications are accepted.
