Abstract: This data set lists the measured snow and firn density and permeability at
sites in West Antarctica. The measurements were done on consecutive ten-
centimeter sampling in snow pits and from firn cores down to approximately
fifteen meters depth. The site locations are as follows:

All except the Siple Dome site were conducted as part of the US-ITASE traverse
in West Antarctica.
The permeability measurements were made with a custom air permeameter. Pit
measurements of approximately the top two meters were conducted at many of the
above sites. Firn core permeability measurements were made in the laboratory
at CRREL (Hanover, N.H.) using a flexible membrane holder that confomed to the
(possibly irregular) sides of the firn core samples. For the firn core
measurements, density was calculated as the mass per unit volume of the
increments of the same firn core samples, using the measured weight of the
sample. Density measurements in the field were made in pits, using consecutive
100 cc sampling down through the 2m pits.
