USGS 1:100,000 Quadrangles of the Missouri River Basin Region

Abstract: This site contains USGS 1:100,000 quadrangle maps for the counties located in
the Missouri River Basin. The types of maps available for particular counties
include the 1993 Flood Extent map; a map of the wetlands in the region before
the 1993 flood; a public lands map that includes levees, river access points,
and 1879 land cover; and a geologic map with classification of regions by
geologic age of formation. The user chooses a specific county from an
interactive map which then links to a list of the maps available for that area.
Then the user may choose a map from that list to view.

Please note that only the lower portion of the Missouri River Basin
is linked at this time.

Description: From the Missouri River InfoLINK website:
The InfoLINK is an Internet-based Missouri River information
clearinghouse. It is a multi-year project initiated in 1998 by a
partnership of Federal agencies. The Missouri River drains one-sixth
of the nation and management decisions affect a wide range of
Americans from Montana to Missouri who represent diverse river
interests. The InfoLINK was created for these stakeholders who want to
understand how the river functions and make informed decisions about
the river's future use and management. The InfoLINK seeks to be a
center point for common ground, uniting interests through information
sharing that facilitates communication among all of the basin's
The InfoLINK web page includes maps that provide a visual perspective
of Missouri River basin information. The example above shows public
lands in the fifty-mile mid-Missouri Manitou Bluffs river corridor
where a local community planning initiative is underway. The planning
effort in this region serves as an InfoLINK pilot for testing map
utility and helping the community increase its capacity to use
geospatial data.
The InfoLINK is an extension of the Lower Missouri River Ecosystem
Initiative (LMREI) started in 1994 by the USGS-BRD Columbia
Environmental Research Center. When the original LMREI funding ended
in 1998, additional support came from the Environmental Protection
Agency, Region 7 (EPA), National Biological Information Infrastructure
(NBII), and the USGS Office of Information and Outreach. All agencies
share a similar goal - to make good scientific information readily
available to the public.
To reduce costs and duplication of efforts, the InfoLINK coordinates
data collection and management with local community groups, a
Technical Committee, and the Missouri River Federal Interagency
Roundtable. Additional partners are welcome to join the InfoLINK
and share ideas, information and resources.
