World Water and Climate Atlas
Entry ID: IWMI_WWCA

Summary
Abstract: The IWMI World Water and Climate Atlas gives irrigation and agricultural planners rapid access to accurate data on climate and moisture availability for agriculture. The Atlas includes monthly and annual summaries for precipitation, temperature, humidity, hours of sunshine, evaporation estimates, wind speed, total number of days with and without rainfall, days without frost and Penman-Montieth ... Description: Climate Service model portal - The new IWMI Climate Atlas Web Query (CAWQuer) service creates online climate summaries for user-specified locations. All you have to do is enter the latitude and longitude coordinates for the location(s) you're interested in and specify which climate variables are needed. CAWQuer then searches over data in the IWMI Atlas and deliver climate summaries almost instantly. The data is displayed in an easy-to-read table, by month.

Description: Download the data viewer and climate grids.

The Synthesizer is a vehicle for viewing, managing, and analyzing geographic information in the form of spatially distributed data (grids), vectors (digital line graphs), labels, and time-series point data. It contains common GIS components along with enhanced tools for working with time-series point data such as those collected at climate stations. The specific tools in the Synthesizer allow users to organize data into common workable formats, view and manipulate that data according to specific needs, and analyze the results of the manipulation.

This software package:

- Utilizes existing climate grids for large regional and global scale reconnaissance studies.

- Provides a localization capability for working with national meteorological agencies and other groups to utilize local data sets which can provide much more detailed and accurate grids of specific areas.

- Enables researchers who are not GIS experts to easily conduct sophisticated analyses using climate and other data.

- Combines climate information with other information such as maps of river basins, population densities, vegetative indices from remote sensing, and the like to substantially improve the level and quality of GIS analysis in agriculture, water resources, and many other fields.

Access Constraints The software is written for Windows 95/98. System resource requirements are based upon the data the user will be working with. We suggest a minimum of 32Mb of RAM (more memory improves performance) and 150Mb of available hard-disk space for the basic system. Data products range from a few megabytes to several gigabytes in size and are available on the web and CD-ROM. At present, large data products are only available on CD-ROM.
