Cold tolerance of Antarctic terrestrial nematodes in the McMurdo Sound region

Abstract: A survey of the nematode fauna associated with moss and algae growth from terrestrial sites on Ross Island and the McMurdo Dry Valleys was conducted. A total of 6 species were identified and maps were drawn showing the distribution of each species in the McMurdo Sound region. Access Constraints Cultures of the Antarctic nematode Panagrolaimus davidi are maintained at the laboratories at the University of Otago that were isolated back in 1988.
More recently further nematode species and strains of P. davidi have been isolated and are maintained in culture. Please contact the investigator for more information.
