The GCMD/IDN is currently transitioning service descriptions from Service Entry Resource Format (SERF) records to Unified Metadata Model (UMM-S) records. The UMM-S offers additional capabilities for describing services that will be beneficial to the Earth science community.
The Metadata Management Tool (MMT) is tentatively scheduled to be available to all providers for service record creation and curation in Summer 2019, whereupon SERF records will be retired and service providers will be directed to use the MMT to curate and/or submit records instead of docBUILDER. Until then, we will assist service record providers in the transition of their SERF records; we have already been in contact with providers who have affected service records. Additional information will be forthcoming as the MMT release date nears.
You can find out more information about the UMM-S on the Earthdata website.
