Abstract: ABSTRACT: OSTM/JASON-2 is a follow-on mission continuing the TOPEX/Poseidon and Jason-1, and is designed to ensure continuity of high quality measurements for ocean science and to provide operational products for assimilation and forecasting applications. The Jason-2 satellite was launched on 20 June 2008 and reached its nominal repetitive orbit on 4 July 2008. This collection of data contains ... View entire text

Purpose: PURPOSE: To monitor high-level science quality of Jason-2 OSTM (Ocean Surface Topography Mission) Operational Geophysical Data Records (OGDR) products. High-precision ocean altimetry measures the distance between a satellite and the ocean surface to within a few centimeters. Accurate observations of variations in sea surface height (ocean topography) provide scientists with information about the speed and direction of ocean currents and heat stored in the ocean. This information, in turn, reveals global climate variations.
